2017 Acura TLX Exterior

The Acura TLX exterior offers a great degree of style and factors in the vehicle's abilities as a design implementation. The sedan measures out to 190.2 inches long while resting at 4.5 feet high. When the TLX is equipped with the 4-cylinder engine, it gets 5.8 inches of ground clearance, whereas the optional V6 jumps it up to 5.9 inches. The 4-cylinder engine option comes with 17-inch machine-finished aluminum alloy wheels, while the V6 provides 18-inch wheels.

The sleek front end and the uniquely designed grille highlight the iconic Acura emblem and the Jewel Eye® LED headlights, providing an extensive view during nighttime excursions. The additional fog lights enhance the line of sight provided by the vehicle.

The Acura TLX Sedan features a power moonroof, allowing drivers to easily open or close based on their preference and weather. The smooth exterior cabin contours to the sleek rear and trunk area with a shark fin antenna to add a little bite to the vehicle's aesthetics. The front of the cabin is fitted with an Acoustic Glass Windshield, which helps reduce the road sounds and loud engine performance from interfering with the quiet ride.

Acura TLX Exterior Colors

The 2017 Acura TLX comes in seven distinctive colors for drivers to choose from. The Bellanova White Pearl offers a clean and shiny look. The Black Copper Pearl is sleek, adding a dark reflection with a faint hint of bronze to the vehicle's surface. The Modern Steel Metallic color highlights the mechanical nature of the sedan, while the San Marino Red adds a fun and exotic appearance.

The Lunar Silver Metallic color choice is similar to the Modern Steel Metallic, only it's lighter and less smoky. The Fathom Blue Pearl is a darker blue with a shiny and more subtle appearance. The final color option, the Crystal Black Pearl, is the darkest color that provides a deep but polished black aesthetic.

Style & Comfort

As you've read about the Acura TLX exterior and its impressive style and components, the vehicle continues the trend with its interior style. The TLX features sport seats with a leatherette-trimmed interior, which can easily be upgraded to the perforated Milano premium leather. Adding to the vehicle's luxurious interior style is the leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

As far as comfort is concerned, the leatherette-trimmed seats provide a great degree of relaxation. However, the driver can maximize his or her comfort with the 10-way power adjustable seat, which also includes power lumbar support. The 2-driver memory system makes switching driving duties a breeze, because it allows you to set your preferred mirror and seating positions and it'll adjust automatically when you take over.

In terms of temperature control, the 2017 TLX not only features dual-zone climate control, but it also features humidity control. This feature keeps the cabin at your desired preference when maneuvering the Orange County roads during the middle of summer. An upgrade to the Technology or Advance package include the GPS-linked automatic climate control, which adjusts your interior temperature based on your location and the sun's position on your vehicle.

Dimensions & Capacities

The Acura TLX opens up with 93.3 cubic feet of cabin space for the five passengers the vehicle was built to carry. In terms of the Acura TLX dimensions, front passengers receive 37.2 inches of headroom and 42.6 inches of legroom. Passengers in the rear get 36.7 inches of headroom and 34.5 inches of room for their legs. The sedan also features a 13.2-cubic-foot trunk.

"Inside, the TLX boasts a modern, streamlined dashboard that keeps buttons to a minimum by way of Acura's dual-display setup, wherein the eight-inch upper unit displays navigation and audio information and the seven-inch lower touchscreen furnishes access to the same as well as the climate control system. Other items of note include an instrument panel multifunction display and, on V6-engined models, an unusual push-button gear selector."

2017 Acura TLX Power & Performance

One of the most important aspects to consider when choosing your next sedan is the engine and its abilities. Depending on your preferences, you may want to focus more on efficiency than power, or the other way around. Luckily, the Acura TLX offers options for you to choose from. You'll want to take notice of the Acura TLX specs to be sure that you're choosing the engine option that's right for you.

Acura TLX Horsepower & Efficiency

The 2017 Acura TLX comes standard with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that's paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission with a torque converter and Sequential SportShift paddle shifters. This sedan also offers an optional 3.5L V6 engine that comes mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission that also features Sequential SportShift paddle shifters.

When it comes to the Acura TLX horsepower, the 2.4L 4-cylinder is capable of producing 206 horsepower and 182 lb-ft of torque. The optional 3.5L V6 is able to deliver a bigger boost in performance with 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. In terms of the Acura TLX MPG, the 2.4L 4-cylinder engine is capable of achieving an EPA-estimated 24/35 city/highway MPG.* The 3.5L V6 sees a very subtle drop at its ability to get 21/34 city/highway MPG.

Handling

In regards to the vehicle's handling, each engine option offers something different. The 4-cylinder engine and the V6 engine both feature front-wheel drive with a Precision All-Wheel Steer™ system. During cornering, the rear wheels will adjust their angles in the opposite direction of the front wheels for better handling and rotation. Braking while clocking in a high speed results in the rear wheels turning toward an inward angle to cause friction, which can help ensure stability and provide more strength to the brakes.

The 3.5L V6 engine offers the optional Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™. This intuitive all-wheel drive system continuously directs the engine power to match both the traction and the weight distribution. While accelerating around a tight curve, this system will direct 70% of the torque to the rear wheels to keep you in control.

"Your experience behind the wheel of the TLX largely depends on which engine is under the hood. Acura offers a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 206 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque as well as a 3.5-liter V6 making 290 hp and 267 lb-ft. The 2.4-liter engine gets a sportier automatic transmission: an eight-speed dual-clutch automated manual, as opposed to the V6's traditional nine-speed automatic. Nevertheless, the V6 is the engine of choice for drivers who like speed. (It's also the only way to get all-wheel drive.) Edmunds track-tested both powertrains, and while the four-cylinder's 7.4-second zero-to-60-mph run was decent, the V6's 6.1-second sprint was much more exciting."

2017 Acura TLX Technology

One of the biggest selling points for drivers in today's market is technology. Vehicles are including more sophisticated amenities that drivers come to expect. Some of these features blend entertainment, convenience, and assistance to provide an easier and more enjoyable ride.

Entertainment Features

The entertainment features all depend on the equipped package you select with your Acura TLX. The standard package includes the 7-speaker Acura Premium Audio System. The Technology package and the Advance package both include the 10-speaker ELS Studio® Premium Audio System. Every package includes the On Demand Multi-Use Display™ (ODMD™), which is a high-resolution touchscreen that provides easy access and quick response when selecting your media choices like the radio, CD player, or Aha™ and Pandora® compatibility. The Technology and Advance packages both feature HD Radio™.

Convenience Technology

The Acura TLX provides you the opportunity to integrate your smartphone with the vehicle's infotainment system. Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® allows you to communicate from the road, as well as stream entertainment from your smartphone into the vehicle's sound system. This system features the SMS/MMS text message reading, which helps reduce driver distraction by displaying your incoming text messages on the ODMD™ screen. You can even respond with one of the preset text messages that the system has stored.

If you upgrade your Acura TLX to feature the Technology or Advance package, you'll get the Acura navigation system. This system provides a 3D view of your vehicle and the surrounding areas to highlight directions to help you find your destination. This system also features AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic™, which provides important updates to help you plan your route accordingly.

Both of these packages include other helpful features like the Voice Recognition system. This system lets you keep your hands on the wheel by using your voice to control your media and navigation. AcuraLink® The Next Generation is a cloud-based system that keeps you connected at all times. You can find your favorite media, weather updates, and even restaurant reservations while out on the road.

Acura TLX Safety Features

One of the most important factors in deciding on your next vehicle is the safety features. These systems and components not only offer protection to you and your passengers, but they also offer assistance in helping you avoid a traffic collision. The Acura TLX offers a lot in this regard.

Acura TLX Active Safety

This sedan features Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control and Motion-Adaptive Steering. This system will automatically engage when the vehicle experiences a loss of traction. During occurrences of wheel slip, VSA® will apply brake pressure to the slipping wheels while diverting the vehicle's torque to the wheels with better traction so the vehicle can regain stability.

The Acura TLX also features helpful braking systems like the Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist. Both of these systems provide an extra boost in braking power during emergency situations. The vehicle also features helpful technology like the Tire Pressure Monitoring System and the Multi-View Rear Camera with Dynamic Guidelines.

Acura TLX Passive Safety

The Acura TLX was designed with safety in mind, due to its next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ body structure. This body structure utilizes outer braces and front and rear crumple zones to increase passenger protection. In the event of a collision, this body structure will absorb the force of impact and disperse it away from passengers in the cabin.

In terms of interior protection, the Acura TLX features an advanced airbag system. The front airbags will adjust their inflation pressure to correspond to the severity of the impact while providing protection and reducing the risk of airbag-related injuries. The Acura TLX features front airbags, side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, and a driver's knee airbag.

Optional Driver-Assisting Technology

Choosing the Technology or Advance package may be a good idea if you're looking for sophisticated driver-assisting technology systems. Both packages include the Lane Keeping Assist System, the Blind Spot Information System, and the Rear Cross Traffic Monitor. However, the Advance package offers additional systems that provide extra assistance while you're navigating the roads.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow allows the driver to set a preferred speed, but they can also set their desired distance from the vehicle ahead-a distance that'll be maintained despite traffic ahead slowing down. This package also includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System™ with head-up warning. This system uses a radar transmitter to determine the distance of the vehicle ahead and the likelihood of an impact based on your rate of approach. This system will warn you if a possible collision will occur, and it'll tug the seat belt and apply brake pressure to illicit a driver reaction to stop the vehicle.

The 2017 Acura TLX receives a 5-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
