2017 Acura MDX Dashboard Light Guide

There's nothing more unsettling when you're driving around the Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, and Aliso Viejo areas and one of your ominous dashboard lights pop on. You may start to worry, but depending on what the light means, it may be something simple. Understanding what each of your dashboard lights indicates is important, because if it's a serious issue, you'll need to know what to do in the event that one pops on when you least expect it.

To help drivers of the 2017 Acura MDX, we're going to show what those dashboard lights mean. You'll learn about the issue that it's trying to warn you of, and we'll even tell you what to do in that situation. By reading this article, you'll be prepared for the day that one appears while you're on the road.

Indicator Lights and Warning Lights

The important thing to know is there are two different sets of lights that will light up on your dashboard. Indicator lights simply remind you of a system that you've activated, or forgot to activate. Warning lights, usually red or amber in color, signify that a serious issue is occurring with your vehicle. All these lights will briefly appear when you start your car, but if they appear when driving, you'll need to know what to do.

2017 Acura MDX Indicator Lights

  • Seat Belt Reminder Indicator: This light will pop up on your dashboard if you haven't fastened your seat belt. An audible alert will soon follow if you haven't buckled up.
  • Electric Parking Brake Indicator: If your parking brake is still engaged, this light will appear to remind you. Once you disengage the parking brake, the light will go away.
  • Vehicle Stability Assist Indicator: Whenever your vehicle detects wheel slippage, the Vehicle Stability Assist indicator will activate and help guide your vehicle back to its intended path. Once your vehicle achieves the proper traction, this light will turn off and the system will deactivate.
  • High Beam Indicator: This light will appear when you've activated your high beams. Once they're off, this light will disappear.

2017 Acura MDX Warning Lights

  • Charging System Light: If your charging system isn't functioning properly, this light will appear to notify you. This means your battery isn't charging and that your vehicle will soon shut down. It's recommended that you pull over to safety and contact your local Acura dealer.
  • Low Oil Pressure: When your engine oil pressure is low, this light will appear to let you know so you can pull over and make arrangements with your Acura dealer. It's not advised to continue driving if this light appears as it could result in further issues with your Acura MDX.
  • Anti-Lock Brake System: When this light appears while you're driving, you'll still have normal braking capabilities, but your anti-lock braking function won't work.
  • Speed-Sensitive Electric Power Steering: If this light comes on, it means that your electric power steering system isn't functioning properly. It's advised that you pull over to safety and contact your Acura dealer. If you continue to drive with this light on, your vehicle will become increasingly difficult to maneuver.
